Family History
Genealogy…..or family history…..or your ancestry…..its known by numerous names. I’ve always been interested in my family and grew up with lots of aunts, uncles and cousins being around.
I consider myself to have been blessed to have been raised with an extended family. My only regret is that I wish I had known more about the family when my grandparents were still alive.
My paternal grandfather moved his wife and five children from the hills of eastern Kentucky in the year of 1918 to the wilderness of northern Wisconsin. Here they carved out a farm and raised a family of eight children to adulthood. My grandmother had two sets of twins, the set was boys and the second set was girls. My aunt Jo died at age of 18 months from pnemonia.
I can remember as a child, there were two large portraits that hung in my grandparents living room. The one of a white haired man hung above my grandfather’s rocker. The other of a very stern looking woman, hung above the couch. I never can remember if anyone ever told me who they were.
My grandparents Andrew and Amy’s wedding photo in Powell Co, KY.
