Never judge a book by its cover

by Terry on Monday, April 13, 2009

Two years ago on Britain’s ‘Britain’s Got Talent’, an unassuming mobile phone car salesman blew away the judges and brought the audience to its feet with his amazing tenor voice.  Paul Potts went on to win the contest and to date has sold over 2 million albums.  At the time of the contest, Paul was 40,000 in debt.

On Saturday, the female version of Paul Potts wiped the smirk off Simon Cowell’s face and made us all realize that we’re all too cynical.  If you want to hear the voice of an angel, then listen to Susan Boyle and she will make your day.

Where’s Spring?

by Terry on Wednesday, April 1, 2009

I thought we were going to have an early spring….HA!  I should have known better.  It’s snowing like crazy, last night was rain/snow/sleet.  The squirrels now have figured out how to get into the squirrel proof feeder.  They have jammed the door open!

Here’s one of them making his way up the pole to pig out.

Photos still not showing shop

by Terry on Tuesday, March 31, 2009

For whatever reason, the photos are still not showing in my shop.   However if you click on the title of the beads, the photo will pop.  It’s very frustrating and if that bug ever shows up, its gonna be stomped.

I got a sale via my etsy shop the other day!  Whee, its been so long that I didn’t think I ever was going to get one.  Now if I can just get some more.

Month of household repairs

by Terry on Monday, March 23, 2009

March has been the pits.  First our outside furnace sprung a leak and it took 2 weeks to be repaired.  Then yesterday, the dh is looking out the window and asks where all the water is coming from outside.  I said, “What water?”  I got up and looked out my office window and see water sitting on top of the ground where the septic tank is.  Nooooooooo, not that!

I left a message for the septic guy last night and he showed up this morning and pumped it out.  It apparently is froze up because we lost our snow cover so early this year.  At least that’s what we’re hoping.  If its a blockage caused by something else, then that means the line has to be dug up and repaired!!!  So now we have to be careful with our water usage until the situation is cleared up.   Hopefully its just frozen and will thaw out in a couple of weeks.

I need a vacation!

Why?

by Terry on Saturday, March 7, 2009

Why do major mechanical breakdowns happen during the winter?  Our outside furnace just sprung a big leak!  Of course, it would have to happen at night, on a weekend yet.  We got it in the summer of 2001, 4 years later it sprung a leak in the same area.  At that time, it was in the fall shortly after starting up the fire for the winter season.  Of course, we’ve had a few days of 40 degree temps, but now its supposed to cool off this week back to winter temps…….argggggggggggh.

Invasion of the squirrels!

by Terry on Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Ack! I’m being invaded by grey squirrels today, they’re all over the place!  They’re snarfing up all the bird feed from the feeders.   Here’s just a few pics, notice on the pic with the wooden feeder that there’s a squirrel on the backside of the feeder pigging out.

Weather Advisory

by Terry on Wednesday, February 25, 2009

Gah!  We’re under a winter storm watch with expected snowfall of 5″ to 8″ of heavy, wet snow.   Is spring ever going to come?

Working on buttons

by Terry on Friday, February 20, 2009

I made up a batch of buttons last week and discovered that the tile I had baked them on had left shiny spots and a few marks.   After 5 days of trying various remedies, I ended up having to sand the entire batch on the back of the buttons.  My wrist and fingers are killing me!

Button, button who has the button?

by Terry on Sunday, February 15, 2009

This past week I’ve been working on some buttons.  Finally got a tile full done and baked.   I wanted them textured this time and after trying some fabric (which didn’t work for me) I scrounged around the kitchen looking for something.  Still didn’t find anything workable.  Then I was looking for my cutters and found a sieve, I tried that and it worked with some extra finger pressure.

Hidden Beads

by Terry on Friday, February 6, 2009

I went down to the basement the other day looking for a clay tool and spotted an organizer down there that I had packed away with my clay.  I opened it up and lo and behold here were a bunch of beads I had forgotten about.  Unfortunately, the majority of them need to be sanded and buffed….waaahhhhh.
